Wondang Complex Community Center, Goyang
The Wondang Community Complex Center is designed as a cultural community space that organically connects the flows of the city, nature, and people through the design concept of “Dancing Curvature.” The architecture goes beyond a simple functional facility to operate as a cultural hub and community platform that revitalizes the local area, forming an open spatial structure that responds to the urban context around Wondang Station and the surrounding green park network.
The building form is defined by a continuous flow of curved geometries, which softens the fragmented boundaries of the urban environment and creates a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces. The varying curvature on each floor introduces rhythm and spatial variation to the architecture, establishing a dynamic identity within the city while maintaining harmony with the surrounding environment. The spatial program is also planned with a focus on activating local community engagement.
The ground floor accommodates welfare-related facilities along with office and community spaces. Floors 2 to 4 are organized as an open library connected to an internal café and an adjacent pocket park, while the 5th floor houses a family center designed to support independent programs. Together, these programs form a multi-generational cultural platform used by a wide range of community members.
The exterior façade incorporates a louver system that emphasizes the building’s flowing curvature while creating a rhythmic architectural expression. The louvers function environmentally by controlling solar exposure and reducing direct sunlight, while their modular system enhances both design flexibility and construction efficiency. Combined with the building’s curved form, these elements create a dynamic façade where light and shadow produce a layered spatial experience.
